Japanese Airliner crew observed a strange set of clouds over the Sea of Okhotsk. This type of cloud formation occur very rarely in the sky.

The clouds were observed on June 18th last year from a Japan Coast Guard aircraft just off the northeastern coast of Hokkaido. The clouds seem to form parallel channels like the rice fields.

The scientists of the Sapporo Meteorological Observatory say these clouds are known as stratocumulus clouds, which roll into long, distinctive ribbons after becoming trapped in air currents over the area.

Clouds get different shapes because of the wind patterns but the occurrence of the stratocumulus clouds is however very rare in nature and it depends on a number of factors.

The aircraft crew were one of the few ones lucky enough to observe this in person.

There are other type of clouds equally unique in appearance and some of them are: Noctilucent Clouds and Mammatus Clouds.

Weird, its like seeing the trail of a plane on a nice day but where the plane is it is so cold and therefore leaves a trail. I know not same but funny eh

Eileen, good point, it looks like jet exhaust. The trail however seems too big and too long, so it looks like a natural one.

This could be an indicator of something dramatic happening in the atmospheric /climate system.

Keith some say it is a natural phenomenon, it has occured in the past at various places.

They look like chemtrails to me, not really a natural phenomenon. There are two types you can witness in the same day. Contrails that disappear after a few seconds and Chem-trails that are long lasting, expand and can linger for a few hours

Thanks Matroy, do you have a link to know more about Chemtrails. Thanks.

This is quite sure a natural phenomenon probably created by (wind) waves, which are well known by glider pilots, the clouds represent the top of the waves.

Drewt 3 years ago

The are called "streets." It's a natural formation. This is a very clean and nice example.

It's an optical illusion! The clouds must be something like cotton. The camera has a special lens that allows you to take photo at very small distance of the object. He lays the cotton over glass I suppose. The wing of the plane is also fake(small). Nice work...

lol@ optical illusion..

its wave cloud, as someone rightly suggested above.. but a very unusual and clean example.

Beutiful wave-clouds yes, the air needs mountains for that!

Go find some real chemtrails instead plz.
