Save 20 Percent Printer Ink With Ecofont

By

Do you want to get more output from the same ink-jet cartridge or laser-jet cartridge? If yes, then you can use the following methods.

  1. Instead of normal printing, use "draft" mode printing, the latter uses less ink and produces a lighter output.
  2. You can also print the document as a PDF and share it with others, avoiding printing altogether.
  3. There is a third method which uses a special font that can reduce the ink use by 20 percent.

The first two methods are straight forward doesn't need any explanation. The third method uses Ecofont, a free typeface font helps reduce ink consumption and it works as follows.

This Ecofont works with all major operating systems such as Windows, Mac and Linux. The font looks just like Arial font so there is no diminishing in appearance quality.

You can download the Ecofont here.

How Ecofont works?

After you install the Ecofont, select the Ecofont for your document. Now when you print the document, it prints the letters with gaps in them as shown below.

The gaps appear big for bigger fonts and may affect the appearance but for normal font size the gaps doesn't distort the look of the text. These gaps in the letters help save up to 20 percent on ink according to Ecofont developers.

The Ecofont is based on the Vera Sans, an Open Source letter, and is available for Windows, Mac OSX and Linux.

If you need help in installing the fonts in your computer, click the link here for additional information. I download the fonts and copied it to the "Fonts" folder in the "Control Panel".

Wow, this new font looks nice even with gaps in them. It could be just another font design to choose from, online and in Word. :)

Yes BeatsMe, actually it looks much better than Times Roman, I will be using this Ecofont as my default. Maybe there is a way to do the same online when we are commenting, save those monitors as well :)

Hello Rajesh, First download the font, then go to Control panel and click the "Fonts" folder. Move the downloaded font into that folder. When you restart your word program, you should see the spranq ecofont. Hope this helps, if not let me know. Thanks.
