Romain Jerome Watch: The $300,000 Watch That Doesn’t Tell Time

It is a $300,000 watch, but it doesn’t tell time only if it is a day or night. So, there will be no demand right? Wrong, it sells out within 48 hours.
Swiss watchmaker Romain Jerome has launched this radical “Day & Night” watch. The watch looks like a regular watch but doesn’t have any numbers just a complex series of mechanical movements.
It just shows whether it is day or night at any given time. And there are no other watches like it, Romain & Jerome are proud to have made this creation for the wealthy. The watch boasts the following:With no display for the hours, minutes or seconds the Day&Night offers a new way of measuring time, splitting the universe of time into two fundamentally opposing sections: day versus night.
A new interpretation of Time based around two Tourbillons operating sequentially. The Day Tourbillon operates during the day, defining the wearer’s period of activity, and stops after twelve hours, handing over to the Night Tourbillon dedicated to man’s own private sphere. An avant-garde approach, that is different and even disturbing. Not only it is disturbing it is puzzling to make sense of the watch’s movements, I hope they have a good manual for it, even though it is not too hard to define it. Romain Jerome made luxury watches earlier with parts of Titanic and sold the limited edition watches for $75,000 and this Day & Night watch continues that tradition with parts of it coming from the main Titanic ship and the ship building factory which originally manufactured Titanic. The company’s chief executive, Yvan Arpa, told Reuters how the watch better reflects the time philosophy of today’s wealthy: “When you ask people what is the ultimate luxury, 80 percent answer ‘time’. Then when you look at other studies, 67 percent don’t look at their watch to tell what time it is,” Arpa added anyone can buy a watch that shows time but only a discerning customer can buy one that doesn’t show time. Or you can simply skip the $300,000 watch and just look at the sky to see whether it is day or night. Sounds like the ultimate in conspicuous consumption. For that kind of money,I would like to know the date as well.

This is a gimmic more than anything for Surrrrre hi is using other peoples money and if if if does well .is due to lack of peapels knowledge ,overall it is a scam and false and emty idea. THE BUYER IS HIS COUSIN WAKE UP

Actually the author of the article is pretty wrong - it does tell the time, but in a rather cryptic manner: each tourbillon cage makes a full rotation in a minute (all of them do, this is how the tourbillon mechanisms work). The position of the tourbillon in regard to the rest of the mechanism tells the hour. There are two tourbillons, each for 12 hours. Which of them runs, tells it's either 3 o'clock in the night or 3 o'clock in the day. (Cheap novelty watches with rotating discs for hour and minute or with abacus-like moving balls for hour and minute work in a similar way).

This watch is cool! I've written an advertorial about the Titanic-DNA watch before. Apparently what's considered scrap is now sold for an astronomical amount of cold hard cash :) Nice hub!
