How to Make Googl URLs without Google's Toolbar in Firefox and Chrome Browsers
By cgull8m
Previously Google introduced Google Shortener service Goo.gl, however this URL shortening services were available only via Google Toolbar and in Feedburner.
If you want to shorten URL and still want Google links by other means, then the options were limited until now. The new method outlined later in this article will help you to shorten links through extensions in Firefox and in Chrome.
First let us see how this can be done in Firefox. Go to this link to download Googl Lite, a Firefox extension. Once you download it then you can shorten any URL you will visit later.
After you download this Googl Lite extension, right click on your Firefox toolbar and click "Customize" and drag the Googl Lite extension to your "Navigation Bar", it will appear as follows right next to your URL window.\
Now when you visit any website with a long URL and want to make a short one, click the Googl Lite "G" icon, it will create a short URL in your clipboard. When you click paste, it will paste the short URL which you can share with others.
For Google Chrome, go to this link in your Chrome browser and install this extension. It works the same way as the Firefox extension we discussed before.
You can also try another Chrome extension "goo.gl url shortener", which does a similar job but also adds the short URLs in your Twitter and Facebook accounts.
To make the above settings into effect you have to restart the browser in Firefox, for Chrome it is not necessary, it is automatically installed.
