Google adds Dictionary extension for Chrome Browser
By cgull8m
Google added a new extension "Dictionary" for its Chromebrowser today. This extension helps us to understand words not only in English but also in the following languages:
- Chinese (Simplified and Traditional)
- Czech
- Dutch (Nederland)
- French
- German
- Italian
- Korean
- Russian
- Spanish
How does it work?
1.) After you install the extension in your Chrome browser from this link here (please note it won't work if you try in Firefox, Google doesn't have a Dictionary extension for Firefox).
After you install the extension go to any web page and double-click the word to know more about the word. It will appear as follows.
But this step requires two clicks to get the full word definition. Instead of this try the following step.
2.) After you install the extension, go to your Chrome settings and click "extensions". Then go to installed "Google Dictionary" extension and click "options". There choose the "show dictionary icon on the address bar". After this step is done then click save.
After you did this step, go to any webpage and choose the word you want more information and click the "dictionary icon" in the address bar (shown below) to see the full definition of the word. In this option setting you can also select other languages.
Google only has limited language option but soon they will add other languages. Another thing this tool doesn't do is give a translation. Google says this extension does not currently support translation. For example, if you choose Russian as your dictionary language and look up an English word, you may not see a definition.
Here is another look with the German Dictionary option:
There is also a similar tool "HyperWords", which does the word definition job in the browser. They are available for both Firefox and Chrome browsers.

great work...I will install it
It sure is a helpful extension. Almost everyone needs a dictionary every now and then. Too bad it still doesn't have a translate extension for chrome browser.
